47th UNESCO World Heritage Session Chaired by Bulgaria Opens in Paris

The official opening of the 47th session of the World Heritage Committee of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), chaired by Bulgaria, began on Monday at UNESCO headquarters in the French capital, Paris, and will last until July 16.

The event will open with welcoming speeches by Minister of Culture Marian Bachev, UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay, and the Chair of the 47th session of the World Heritage Committee, Prof. Nikolay Nenov. During their speeches, video images of cultural heritage sites in Bulgaria will be broadcast, the Ministry of Culture said.

Later in the day, a press conference will taken place, featuring  Assistant Director-General for Culture at UNESCO Ernesto Ottone Ramirez,, Director of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre Lazare Eloundou Assomo and 47th World Heritage Session Chair Prof. Nenov. After that, an exhibition, titled "On the Waves of the Black Sea through the Ages" will be opened at the organization's headquarters with an address by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Todor Chobanov, Deputy Minister of Culture and head of the bulgarian delegation.

On July 7, July’s issue of the Bulgarian News Agency LIK magazine, dedicated to Bulgaria and UNESCO, will be presented at the UNESCO headquarters.

After it, there will be an official reception given by the Republic of Bulgaria. The guests will hear official greetings from Minister of Culture Marian Bachev, Director-General of UNESCO Audrey Azoulay, as well as musical greetings from the Bistritsa Babi and Prof. Zheni Zaharieva (piano) and Darina Maleeva (violin). The event will be held at the organization's headquarters.
