Number of Foreigners
Visiting Albania Reaches
Pre-pandemic Level

Tirana, July 27 (BTA) - Albania reports a considerable increase in foreign visitors in June 2021 compared with June 2020. The website Exit.al cites data from the Institute of Statistics in Tirana showing that 604,381 foreigners entered the country in June 2021, which was 3.4 times the number a year earlier, when COVID-related restrictions were tighter. The level was closer to the 630,334 visitors reported in June 2019.

In June 2021, the most foreign tourists arrived from Kosovo. Their number (334,908) far exceeded the level registered in June 2020 (109,517) and even the pre-pandemic level (213,550 in June 2019). Another 68,522 travellers arrived from the Republic of North Macedonia, which was a several-fold increase year-on-year (9,878 in June 2020) and a small increase from the last pre-crisis June (67,767 in 2019).

The website says the Albanian government has lifted all restrictions on foreign tourists visiting the country. Entry does not require a negative PCR test, a vaccination certificate or any other document related to COVID-19 control. New coronavirus infections and fatalities have decreased over the last few months, although July has seen a slight increase as the Delta variant of the virus has been confirmed in Albania. One-third of the population has received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine.
