A mask mandate is in force for Sofia's public transport as of Monday, July 25, amid a new surge in COVID infections. Protective face masks are to be worn by all persons above 6 years of age.

Bulgaria dropped the requirement to wear a face mask on April 1.

As COVID infections started to surge again, a national face mask mandate was issued for healthcare and social care establishments, pharmacies, opticians' and drugstores last week.

The test positivity rate on Monday was 27.4% country-wide.

Sofia had the second-highest seven-day infection rate of 222.29 per 100,000 population. The highest incidence was reported in the Black Sea city of Varna (235.80 per 100,000).
