Bulgaria's President Iliana Iotova will make a statement regarding the 2026 State Budget Act later on Wednesday, the head of State's Press Secretariat said.
On Tuesday, Continue the Change submitted a petition calling on the President to veto the 2026 State Budget Act. The petition was signed by more than 32,000 Bulgarians. The party said it would challenge the law before the Constitutional Court if it is not returned to Parliament for reconsideration.
Speaking to reporters in Parliament on Wednesday, Vladislav Goranov MP of GERB-UDF said that his parliamentary group would also file a constitutional challenge against the 2026 State Budget Act after it is gazetted.
Parliament adopted conclusively the 2026 State Budget Act on July 24. The budget provides for a fiscal deficit of 5.7% of gross domestic product (GDP), freezes the monthly minimum wage at EUR 620.20, and authorizes the government to take on up to EUR 10.1 billion in new public debt.
