Sofia, October 4 (BTA) - An earthquake measuring 2.9 points on the Richter Scale and epicentred 7 km east of the Town of Bankya (15 km west of Sofia) was registered at 4:42 a.m. Bulgarian time on Monday, the National Institute of Geophysics, Geodesy and Geography (NIGGG) with the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences reported in a press release.

The tremor occurred at a depth of 12.5 km and was felt in the uppermost storeys of residential buildings in Sofia's Lyulin Borough.

Another earthquake, of 3.3 points magnitude, was registered at 3:47 p.m. on Saturday, the NIGGG said. That tremor, epicentred 21 km north of Ardino (South Central Bulgaria, 179 km southeast of Sofia), was not felt in the rest of the country. RY/LG
