Health Ministry to Introduce
COVID-19 Antibody Certificate As of November 11;
Document to be Valid for 90 Days

Sofia, November 9 (BTA) - COVID-19 antibody certificates will be introduced on Thursday and will be valid for 90 days, caretaker Health Minister Stoycho Katsarov told journalists here on Tuesday.

Virologist Prof. Radka Argirova said that the certificates will be issued to people who are fairly well protected against coronavirus reinfection and not to ones who have just recovered from COVID-19. Argirova said that values of antibodies for eligibility to obtain a certificate and methods for the verification of the values need to be introduced.

COVID-19 antibody certificates will be issued to people who had the infection but experienced no symptoms, those who verified their infection with an antigen test and those who were admitted for treatment, but have no test verification of it, Argirova added.

The Health Ministry is ready to provide free rapid antigen tests to election committee members and everyone else who is involved in the election procedure at the November 14 presidential and parliamentary elections if they do not possess a COVID-19 green certificate. Katsarov stressed that the proposition was made at a meeting with Central Election Commission (CEC) members on Monday. Most of CEC members stood firmly against the idea, arguing that most of the election committee members would not agree to be tested and also, no preparation exists to replace election committee members with new officials if they tested positive for COVID-19. "We will insist on following all anti-epidemic measures," Katsarov said.

Over 1.5 million sparing COVID-19 tests will be provided for school students. Some 200,000 tests have been delivered until Monday, the Health Minister noted. In Katsarov's words, one of the contractors, Bulsnite, "vanished" without delivering the 200,000 tests it had undertaken to deliver. Due to this, children in years one to four in 15 regions will continue with online schooling until the shortfall in tests is resolved.

The Health Ministry is doing its best to deliver all tests to the Education Ministry by next week, so it can start organizing the testing process, Katsarov added. He said that the tests for the teachers are not sparing as the ones for the students. DT/KK
