"I don't expect the provocations of the Russian Federation to relent. Regrettably, the contrary is more probable. We saw what happened in Poland and, a couple of days later, in Romania, too. Therefore, the European Union and NATO both conclude that Russia obviously does not want peace at this point," Bulgarian Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev commented to journalists here on Monday.
He was approached for reaction to the Russian drones' incursion into the airspace of NATO members Poland and Romania.
Asked about Bulgaria's position, what will follow and whether Bulgaria is prepared to meet such a challenge, Georgiev said: "We are definitely prepared - both we as a State and as a NATO ally, as a country which is taking strenuous care of security on the eastern flank, but also the concerted efforts of the Alliance at least for beefing up protection of the flank."
Bulgaria's chief diplomat added that joint air policing operations, investments in appropriate infrastructure, and airspace patrolling are an absolutely indispensable part of this country's joint-defence and security obligations.
