The European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA) invites each member agency to nominate one or more candidates for the 2025 Maxim Minchev Award, the EANA Board said on Tuesday.

Submissions may cover editorial, commercial, financial, technical or other relevant areas. The award is open to staff from all departments within EANA member news agencies, the team clarified.

According to EANA, past recipients of the award presented projects that improved the core business model of their agencies and could be applied more broadly within the operations of major news agencies.

The winning project will be selected by the EANA Board based on several criteria. These include innovation (the project should address a significant problem in an original way), applicability (the project should be transferable to other agencies), cost-effectiveness (it should include an analysis of turnover versus expenditure and demonstrate profitability), and impact (the project should contribute to expanding the reach of the agency).

The winner will receive a prize of CHF 1,000 and will also be invited to present the winning project at the next EANA General Assembly, which will take place in Athens on September 26, 2025. Travel and accommodation costs will be covered.

Entries must be submitted to secretarygeneral@newsalliance.org by August 1, 2025. Each entrant will receive email confirmation that their submission has been registered, EANA added.

The EANA General Assembly introduced the annual award in 2005 to recognize excellence in news agency performance. Since 2021, it has been named the Maxim Minchev Award for News Agency Quality, in honour of the late Director General of the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA).
