Bulgaria's Average Salary Shows Third Highest Growth in EU in 2024, But Remains Lowest of All - Eurostat

In 2024, the average annual full-time adjusted salary for employees in Bulgaria increased by 13.9% to EUR 15,387, the third highest growth in the European Union after Romania (16.7%) and Poland (16.6%). Still, Bulgaria had the EU's lowest average salary, at EUR 15,400 annually, with Greece (EUR 18,000) and Hungary (EUR 18,500) completing the bottom three, the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat) reports on its website.

Across the EU, the average annual full-time adjusted salary in 2024 was EUR 39,800, reflecting a 5.2% increase from EUR 37,800 in 2023. Among the EU countries, the highest average annual salary was recorded in Luxembourg (EUR 83,000), followed by Denmark (EUR 71,600) and Ireland (EUR 61,100).

The 2024 level in Bulgaria was 38.7% of the bloc's average, compared with 35.7% in 2023.
