The ninth Pirin Ultramarathon will bring together more than 900 participants from 45 countries in the town of Bansko on September 12, the organizers said on Wednesday. This year's edition will feature four routes, including the new 25 kilometre route for beginners that debuted in 2024. The event will last until September 15
The race's longest route covers 160 km with 11,000 metres of total elevation gain. Competitors have a 50-hour limit to traverse some of the highest and most remote parts of the mountain, including Pirin Peak, which, at 2,593 metres, is the highest point on the route. The medium route is 68 km long with over 4,400 metres of elevation gain and the highest point is Kuklite Peak at 2,686 metres. The very popular Pirin Extreme sky race covers 38 km and includes over 3,350 metres of positive elevation gain.
The fourth route, Pirin Trail, is 25 km long with 1,000 metres of total ascent.
There are 11 aid stations along the Pirin Ultra routes. Safety crews will be on hand, and runners in the 160 km and 68 km races will be monitored in real time via GPS. Live race data will be displayed at the start-finish area, with results also available online at www.race-tracking.com.
