site.btaOlympic Champion Ivet Goranova Reaches Finals in 55 kg Kumite Category at 2025 Karate 1-Premier League Cairo


Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion Ivet Goranova reached the final in the 55 kg kumite category at the Karate 1-Premier League tournament in Cairo (Egypt).
The Bulgarian athlete played five matches on Saturday and recorded four victories. In the groups, she defeated Madina Sadigova (Azerbaijan) 1:0, Maia Scharer (Switzerland) 8:0 and finished 1:1 with Anna Chernysheva (neutral athlete).
In the quarterfinals, Goranova defeated Turkiye's Tuba Yakan 5:1, to whom she lost in the final of the 2023 World Championships. In the semifinals, the Bulgarian also won against Kseniya Dronchanka (Poland) 1:0.
In the final on Sunday, Ivet Goranova will face the Japanese Akari Harada.
In mid-March, the Bulgarian won a bronze medal at the Karate 1 Premier League tournament in the Chinese city of Hangzhou.
Another Bulgarian athlete, Teodora Tsaneva, participated the Cairo tournament, in the 50 kg category. She took second place in group 3, after finishing 8:8 with Katarina Rodrigues (Portugal), defeated Samina Yalcin (Netherlands) 2:1 and Shara Hubrich (Germany) 3:1.
The capital of Egypt, Cairo, will host the World Karate Championships at the end of November.
