site.btaMost Vegetable Wholesale Prices Grow in Week Ending Oct. 24

Bulgaria’s food wholesale price index rose by 1.19% to 2.299 points in the week ending on October 24, the State Commission on Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets reported. By the end of the previous week, the index was 2.272 points. The base level of 1.000 point was set in 2005.

On the vegetable market, the average wholesale price of cucumbers grew most significantly over the week in review, going up by 26.53% to BGN 2.90 per kilogramme. The price of vegetable marrows increased by 21.77% to BGN 1.60/kg. Other notable increases were recorded for potatoes, up by 10.06% to BGN 1.05/kg, and red peppers, growing by 8.08% to BGN 2.30/kg. Green peppers went up by 4.70% to BGN 1.96/kg. The average wholesale price of tomatoes rose by 4.48% to BGN 2.80/kg. The price of cabbage remained unchanged at BGN 1.04/kg. Price decreases were reported for carrots (-2.62% to BGN 1.19/kg) and onion (-2.31% to BGN 1.10/kg).

On the fruit market, the average wholesale price of watermelons increased by 10.32% to BGN 0.62/kg, and grapes rose by 1.49% to BGN 3.13/kg. Price decreases were observed with apples (-7.51% to BGN 2.34/kg), lemons (-2.58% to BGN 3.77/kg) and bananas (-0.71% to BGN 2.79/kg).

The average wholesale price of white brined cheese fell by 0.49% in a week to stand at BGN 12.12 per kilogramme, and the price of yellow kashkaval cheese of the Vitosha type decreased by 1.53% to BGN 17.90/kg. Yogurt (with fat content of 3% and over) went up by 2.62% to BGN 1.41 for a cup of 400 g, and fresh milk grew by 1.75% to BGN 2.33 per litre. The price of butter from cow’s milk rose by 0.32% to BGN 3.17 for a packet of 125 g.

Frozen chicken depreciated by 0.32% in a week to stand at BGN 6.95/kg. The price of eggs (size M) remained unchanged at BGN 0.38 per piece.

The price of rice grew by 2.13% to BGN 3.35/kg. The price of flour (type 500) fell by 4.23% to BGN 1.45/kg. Sunflower oil went up by 5.15% to BGN 3.35/litre, and sugar went down by 1.77% to BGN 1.78/kg. Lower prices were also reported for dry common beans (-2.76% to BGN 4.16/kg) and lentils (-3.25% to BGN 3.99/kg).
