Investment and economic exchange between Bulgaria and Germany should lead to deeper technology transfer and industrial cooperation, Bulgarian President Rumen Radev said at a meeting with representatives of the German-Bulgarian Chamber of Industry and Commerce here on Monday. Attending were Chamber President Horst Stuer and CEO Sonja Miekley, the head of State's press secretariat reported.

During the meeting, Radev recalled that Germany ranks first as Bulgaria's foreign trade partner, and that in 2024, trade between the two countries exceeded EUR 12.3 billion. This is facilitated by mutual trust between the countries and active bilateral dialogue at all levels. Bulgaria's dynamic technological development in the field of high technology and artificial intelligence also creates conditions for strengthening German business investment interest here, the President said.

The sides agreed that the large Bulgarian community in Germany provides an opportunity for German businesses to attract qualified personnel for the implementation of their investment projects in Bulgaria, as well as for Bulgaria to counteract negative demographic trends. With the return of educated young Bulgarians from abroad, Bulgaria also benefits from the implementation of successful models of interaction between institutions, business, and science. The President also emphasized the need to increase transparency in the work of institutions in order to improve the economic and investment climate and to guarantee private property and the rule of law.

The German-Bulgarian Chamber of Industry and Commerce called for more predictability and sustainability in relations between the State and businesses. They noted the great interest of German companies in further investments in Bulgaria's real economy, which also depends on the sustainability of the legal framework regulating business conditions. The Chamber also called for dialogue in the process of its development, public discussion, and adoption, so that the best solutions of mutual interest can be achieved.
