President of the European Central Bank Christine Lagarde has welcomed Bulgarian National Bank Governor Dimitar Radev as an observer on the ECB Governing Council.

In a post on social media on Wednesday, Lagarde shared a photo of herself shaking hands with the BNB Governor.

“In just over 100 days Bulgaria will become the 21st country to adopt our single currency. I’m delighted to welcome Bulgarian National Bank Governor Dimitar Radev to the Governing Council. He’ll join our meetings as an observer until Bulgaria’s accession on 1 January,” Lagarde wrote on X.

On July 8, the European Parliament and the EU Council gave final approval for Bulgaria’s accession to the Eurozone on January 1, 2026.
