Household Deposits Up by 12% Y/Y in July

Household deposits increased by 12.2%, year-on-year, reaching BGN 94.388 billion by the end of July this year, according to data released by the Bulgarian National Bank on Monday.

By comparison, at the end of the same month in the previous year, July 2024, household deposits stood at BGN 84.13 billion.

The annual growth rate accelerated in the seventh month of this year, following an 11.2% year-on-year increase recorded in June.

Deposits of Non-financial corporations were BGN 48.046 billion (21.9% of GDP) at the end of July 2025. Compared to the same month of 2024 they increased by

7.8% (6.1% annual growth in June 2025).

Deposits of Financial corporations increased by 14.1% annually in July 2025 

(30.5% annual growth in June 2025) and at the end of the month they were BGN 3.799 billion (1.7% of GDP).

As of the end of July 2025, deposits in the non-government sector reached BGN 146.233 billion, which equals 66.6% of the country’s GDP. The annual increase in deposits amounts to 10.8% (compared to 10% in the previous month of June).

According to the Bulgarian National Bank, the annual growth of non-government sector deposits could accelerate to 15.7% by the end of 2025. This is mainly due to the expected increase in the depositing of available cash in the banking system ahead of Bulgaria’s accession to the eurozone, with the aim of subsequent conversion into euros, the BNB forecasts in the latest edition of its Macroeconomic Forecast.
