The Innovation and Growth Ministry recognizes the implementation of innovations in the health sector as a particularly important priority, Deputy Minister Krasimir Yakimov said during the opening of a new production facility of Intuitive in Parvomay, the company said on Friday.
The investment of Intuitive is of exceptional importance not only for Parvomay and Plovdiv Region, but also for the whole of Bulgaria, Yakimov emphasizes, adding that it shows that high-tech and world-renowned companies choose Bulgaria for their new modern production.
“Bulgaria’s reputation for medical innovation and excellent quality in optical manufacturing, combined with its strategic location in the heart of Europe, make the country an ideal choice for our new base,” said Intuitive General Manager Harald Haigis.
The company stated that the investment was worth over BGN 80 million and that the new facility will increase the capacity to manufacture 3D endoscopes used in Da Vinci Robotic Surgical Systems worldwide, complementing the company’s existing manufacturing facilities in Germany and other parts of the world.
Among the official guests of the event were Parvomay Mayor Nikolay Mitkov and Plovdiv Regional Governor Prof. Hristina Yancheva. The opening was also attended by representatives of government institutions, medical and industry associations, hospitals, scientific and academic organizations.
Founded in 1995 in California, USA, Intuitive is the manufacturer of Da Vinci Robotic Surgical Systems, a surgical platform used by nearly 90,000 qualified surgeons to perform almost 17 million procedures worldwide. The production base in Parvomay is the company's first in Bulgaria and part of the company's expansion in Europe.
