Representatives of Bulgarian and British businesses discussed opportunities for future cooperation during a meeting held here on Thursday. The event was organized by the British Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce (BBCC), with the kind support of the British Embassy, Vivacom, and was held under the auspices of Veliko Tarnovo Municipality.
Attending the event were Veliko Tarnovo Mayor Daniel Panov, Deputy Regional Governor of Veliko Tarnovo Yulia Likomanova-Mutafchieva, UK Ambassador to Bulgaria Nathaniel Copsey, BBCC Executive Director Desislava Miteva, BBCC Regional Ambassador for Veliko Tarnovo Alexander Dow, and Vivacom’s Regional Manager Hristina Trifonova. Several BBCC members from Sofia also participated, expressing interest in learning more about the local business landscape in Veliko Tarnovo.
The forum included panels on trends and opportunities for bilateral trade between the UK and Bulgaria, presentations of successful business stories from local companies, discussions on business–higher education partnerships, and an overview of regional opportunities in Veliko Tarnovo.
Ambassador Copsey told journalists that UK–Bulgarian relations are stronger than ever. He referenced a recent meeting during which a new agreement between the UK and Bulgaria was signed in three key areas: trade and investment, youth mobility, and defense and security. These are just the first steps, he noted, with more to follow. The Ambassador expressed confidence that there will be strong interest in strengthening ties between businesses in Veliko Tarnovo and the UK.
On bilateral trade, Ambassador Copsey remarked that current figures show about 10% growth compared to last year. While trade volume has not yet returned to pre-COVID levels, he expressed optimism about further progress.
