Pomorie can be a year-round tourist destination, said Deputy Minister of Tourism Irena Georgieva on Saturday at a discussion entitled "Brand Pomorie - the modern story of culture and tourism", held in the conference hall of the Pomorie Grand Hotel in the Black Sea town.

She said that in 2024, the total number of tourist registrations in the Municipality of Pomorie was around 119,000, according to data from the Unified Tourist Information System, which is 4.5 times the population of the city. Nearly 30% of tourists in the municipality in 2024 visited the destination outside the summer season, which shows that these are the first and quite confident steps towards Pomorie becoming a year-round destination, Georgieva said.

Pomorie is not just a seaside resort. It is a living museum of civilizations, a crossroads of history, nature, and contemporary culture, Georgieva said. She pointed out that Pomorie could become the spa capital of the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, as it has exceptional potential for this and its place in Brand Bulgaria. The deputy minister also highlighted Pomorie's potential to offer cultural, historical, and wine tourism.

Georgieva pointed out that the Ministry of Tourism is focused on assisting municipalities in promoting their tourism products. It is almost axiomatic that the density of the national tourism product comes from what a particular destination has to offer. If we look at the promotional videos and everything we see from competing destinations, they do not simply advertise the country, but the places where tourists can go and have a fulfilling experience, Georgieva pointed out.

She presented her Ministry's vision and actions for the development of specialized types of tourism. Among the priorities, she mentioned the development of health tourism, spa and medical, as well as cultural and historical tourism, parts of which are wine and gastronomic tourism.

In the fall, Plovdiv will host a global conference on wine tourism, Georgieva noted. She announced that a major investment forum is being prepared, which will be linked to the development of health tourism over the next year, and added that Pomorie could also be represented at these global forums. The second forum will be organized with the assistance of the World Travel and Tourism Council.

The Ministry of Tourism supports tourism in the municipalities, and this is the clear direction of the current leadership of the Ministry. She said that her ministry is doing everything possible to ensure that the municipality's tourism product has a global reach.

She advised the mayor of Pomorie, Ivan Aleksiev, who also participated in the forum, to make the name of Pomorie's tourism product more visible in the virtual space. The Ministry of Tourism, with the power of its advertising campaigns on social media, can also help in this regard, Georgieva said.

In conclusion, the deputy tourism minister expressed her wish for a successful summer season, which, according to her, is forecast for Pomorie to be the centre of positive news that will come in the summer of 2025.
