site.btaDeputy Economy Minister Confers with European Commission Representatives in Bulgaria

Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry, Nikolay Pavlov, held a meeting with Sofia Munoz Albarran, Director for Resources, Intern-Institutional Relations, Communications and Civil Society at the European Commission’s (EC) Directorate-General for Trade, and EC representative in Bulgaria, the Ministry's press office announced on Friday. The meeting took place at the Ministry and was attended by experts from the institution, business representatives, and civil society organizations. 

Discussions covered the EU's Common Trade Policy, recent updates to it, and the anticipated impact of these changes on both the European and, more specifically, the Bulgarian economy. Other topics included the Mercosur agreement, the conclusion of negotiations with Mexico, and Bulgaria's accession to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development's (OECD).

During the meeting, it was highlighted that the EU has various tools aimed at creating a more competitive environment and a more open European market. Pavlov stressed that the EU is at a historic moment, facing many challenges as it seeks to find a balance between maintaining its open and dynamic economy, protecting national security, and defending its economic interests in relation to international partners.

He emphasized the need for accelerating efforts to prepare a comprehensive and long-term vision for industry and for adopting a long-term, strategic approach in a timely manner.

During the discussion with business organizations and academic communities, opinions were exchanged on the EU’s common trade policy, relations with third countries, and specific issues related to the implementation of the policy on combating climate change.
