The 16th edition of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles (CMB) international wine contest started in Burgas on Friday. The 2025 edition of the event begins with the evaluation of Sauvignon blanc wines, part of the prestigious Sauvignon Selection - one of the main categories in the CMB programme. Over 1,000 Sauvignon blanc wines will be assessed by an international jury of 60 members, including 50 journalists and wine professionals from around the world.
For the first time, the Sauvignon Selection is being held outside of traditional Sauvignon-producing countries, offering Bulgaria a unique opportunity to showcase its wine heritage and potential, Bulgaria’s CMB ambassador Meglena Mihova said. The contest is organized in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, and the Municipality of Burgas. Bulgaria is participating with over 55 white wine samples - the highest number to date.
Tourism Minister Miroslav Borshosh emphasized the importance of hosting such events as part of Bulgaria’s focus on wine tourism in 2025. Another major event will be held in Bulgaria in October 2025 - the Global Conference on Wine Tourism under World Tourism Organization of the United Nations (UNWTO).
Founded over 30 years ago, the CMB is the largest and most prestigious international contest, recognized by international producers, merchants, oenologists, sommeliers and journalists. The forum travels around the world and countries compete to host it. Previous hosts have included France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, Taiwan, Brazil, China, Chile, among others.
Friday programme includes a masterclass on Sauvignon blanc production in Bulgaria and a mini wine expo at Sea Casino Cultural Center. The winners will be announced on April 21.
