Vazrazhdane Floor Leader Kostadin Kostadinov declared Wednesday in Parliament that the parliamentary group will not stand by and watch the destruction of the national currency and the stability of the country's economy. "We promised you something on the first day this ruling majority was voted - we will not allow Bulgaria to enter the euro area illegally," he stressed.
At the beginning of the declaration, Kostadinov argued that immediately after the Government was voted steps were triggered to sharply accelerate the process of destroying the Bulgarian lev and abolishing the currency board. He added that the absolute priority of the new assemblage [a term used with a negative connotation to refer to the formation of governments by politically incompatible entities] seems to be not tackling the political crisis, overcoming the economic difficulties facing Bulgarian citizens and companies or dealing with galloping inflation, but forcing Bulgaria into the euro area.
The declaration also argues that the euro area itself is entering another crisis.
"Bulgaria's monetary system has been proven to work more than excellently and is one of the best in the world and is resilient to external and internal shocks. Why spoil something that works. The new Government's response is one of theft and servility," Kostadinov said.
