During the period December 1, 2023 - March 25, 2024, tourist check-ins in Bulgaria numbered 1.8 million. The largest number were Bulgarian tourists (1.3 million), Romanian tourists were over 62,000, tourists from Greece were nearly 57,000, tourists from Turkiye were over 53,000, and visitors from Great Britain numbered 53,000. Nearly 28,000 Italian tourists visited Bulgaria during the specified period, those from North Macedonia were over 26,000, tourists from Germany numbered 23,000, those from Israel were nearly 21,000, Serbian tourists were 19,000, etc.

From the beginning of December 2023 until March 25, the preferred destination was the Municipality of Sofia, which reported 323,000 tourists, followed by the municipalities of Bansko, Velingrad, Samokov, Smolyan, Chepelare and Varna.

Among the municipalities with developed ski tourism, Bansko was the most visited, followed by Samokov (including Borovets), Smolyan and Chepelare, with the highest number of Bulgarian tourist check-ins recorded there.

The current winter season is expected to mark and increase of  5% in visits compared to the 2022/2023 winter season, and the increase is expected to be significantly higher from the markets of Turkiye, Italy and Serbia.

The Unified Tourist Information System (UTIS) indicates that the largest share of tourists were between the ages of 30 and 44.
