Two of Bulgaria’s best-known mountain resorts, Borovets and Bansko, have once again ranked among the most affordable winter resorts in Europe for skiers from the United Kingdom. The ranking has been published in the Post Office Travel Money Ski Report 2026, accessible via the website PostOffice.co.uk.

Borovets, the oldest mountain resort in Bulgaria and the Balkans, ranks second among European winter resorts in terms of best value for money, according to the ranking, which assesses the quality of tourist services and their price for British tourists planning a child-free ski holiday.

Bansko, where the winter tourist season 2025/2026 was officially opened on December 13, ranks fourth, behind the Norwegian resort of Geilo in third place. The most affordable resort for adults without children is the Italian ski resort of Bardonecchia, which also topped the ranking last year.

According to data from Post Office Travel Money, a six-day holiday in Borovets costs a British tourist GBP 668.06. The amount includes a six-day ski pass and ski/boot hire for one person plus ski school (five-six half days), a range of drinks and lunch on the slopes. The same services in Bansko cost GBP 706.34, while in Bardonecchia, named the most affordable, the cost is GBP 601.02.

For British families of two adults and two children travelling on a ski holiday in Europe, the most affordable destinations are the Italian Alpine resorts of Passo Tonale and Bardonecchia, followed immediately by Bansko. A six-day stay in Passo Tonale costs GBP 1232.54, in Bardonecchia GBP 1473.48, and in Bansko GBP 1536.18.

The ranking also notes that the most significant increase in lift pass prices over the past decade has been recorded in Bansko. In 2016, a six-day lift pass there cost GBP 111.25, while in 2026 it is expected to reach GBP 282.83, an increase of 154.2%.

By comparison, this season a six-day lift pass will cost GBP 173.77 in Bardonecchia, GBP 224.83 in Geilo, and GBP 261.29 in Borovets.

Overall, during the 2025/26 season, the cost of a holiday for British visitors to Borovets has risen by 18.6% year on year, while in Bansko it has increased by 23.3%, the highest increase among the ten most affordable European resorts included in the ranking.

The survey covers 32 ski resorts in nine European destinations: Andorra, Austria, Bulgaria, Finland, France, Italy, Norway, Spain, and Switzerland.
