site.btaRegulator Sets December Natgas Price 4.3% Lower

The Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) set the price of natural gas for December at BGN 63.01/MWh (EUR 32.22/MWh), excluding access, transmission, excise and VAT costs, EWRC said here on Monday.

At this price, state-owned gas supplier Bulgargaz will provide natural gas to end suppliers and entities licensed to produce and transmit thermal energy.

The approved price of BGN 63.01/MWh (EUR 32.22/MWh) is 4.3% lower than the November price of BGN 65.82/MWh (EUR 33.65/MWh). The decrease reflects the continued decline of the TTF pricing index on international gas markets and the partial withdrawal by some customers of previously requested quantities. Price data show that the current level is 16.3% lower than in December 2024 and 34% lower than in December 2023.

The regulator set the price after assessing updated data submitted by Bulgargaz. The pricing mix includes the full contracted volume of Azerbaijani natural gas delivered via the Bulgaria-Greece Gas Interconnector under a long-term agreement with Azerbaijan. These supplies cover a substantial share of consumption and play an important role in ensuring a favourable final price. For December, Bulgargaz has also secured quantities of liquefied natural gas under contracts with traders following a tender requiring a minimum delivery price and specific payment terms. The pricing mix for the month also includes gas from the Chiren underground storage facility.

With the secured volumes, the public supplier will meet its December obligations to end suppliers and district heating companies, as well as bilateral contracts with industrial clients. Deliveries for the entire winter season have been contracted, and if there is no significant increase in regional demand, the price may remain close to current levels, ensuring stability for Bulgarian consumers, EWRC said.
