The painting and sculpture exhibition, Redemption, by artist Ivaylo Kamenov will be displayed at the Sofia Press Gallery-Bookstore in the Bulgarian capital between October 1 and 14, the organizers said on Thursday.

Art critic Vasil Urumov says: “The rough forms, heavy brushstrokes, and powerful earthy tones are meant to capture the viewer’s attention, but it is the theme of the work that holds it – humility in the face of the inevitable, and hope amidst harshness.” According to Urumov, the lack of specificity in the depiction of figures in the artist’s works gives us the opportunity to see ourselves in the canvas and to focus on the emotion embedded within it.

The event is organized in collaboration with the Union of Bulgarian Artists.

Ivaylo Kamenov was born in 1967 in Sofia. He graduated from the Iliya Petrov School of Fine Arts and later from the National Academy of Arts, specializing in monumental painting under Professor Dimo Zaimov. He works in the fields of painting and sculpture, with completed murals in both public and private buildings, as well as compositions in round sculpture and relief. After a long absence from public exhibitions, he returned in 2020 with a series of solo shows, and in recent years has actively participated in collaborative art projects.
