The Cultural Nomads exhibition will open at the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in Berlin on Friday. Admission to the event is free.

The exhibition will feature 20 contemporary artists from Bulgaria, Turkiye, Germany, Austria, Japan, and Iceland, all of whom live and work in Germany.

The participating artists are Hans Peter Kuhn, Mariana Vassileva, Junko Wada, Valio Tchenkov, Zara Alexandrova, Zoran Georgiev, Marta Djourina, Vikenti Komitski, Dagmar Schurrer, Ivan Kostolov, Sibin Vassilev, Mehtap Baydu, Viktor Petrov, Egill Saebjornsson, Fanny Spang, Sifa Girinci, Marie Lynn Speckert, Ivan Panteleev, Fabian Vogl, and Marlene Bart, the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in Berlin said.

The exhibition will feature the latest edition of the Herbarium collection, curated by Irina Batkova, and will include works by internationally recognized artists based in Germany, according to the Institute.

According to the Institute, the new Herbarium collection examines cultural nomadism. In the context of globalization, cultural intermingling associated with migration encompasses not only physical relocation between countries but also the experience of navigating multiple identities, territories, and affiliations. Cultural nomadism differs from forced migration or exile; it is a deliberate pursuit of broader perspectives, where freedom of expression and enrichment through diversity are central values.

The Herbarium collection aims to preserve the creative output of artists from various generations and countries, using boxes similar to those designed for plant specimens. Participants in the project act as both subjects and researchers, nominating new contributors and, consequently, new works for inclusion. Through professional networks in the contemporary visual arts community, each edition documents the exchange of ideas and artistic perspectives in the context of global social, political, environmental, and technological developments.
