The study of legal issues, along with the dissemination and accessibility of scholarly results to a wider audience, is of particular importance for modern legal science and practice, said Justice Minister Georgi Georgiev at the opening of the 10th International IUS & LEX Conference here on Thursday.
The forum, hosted by Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski, marked the anniversary of the Balkan Association for Roman Law and Roman Legal Tradition Societas pro iure Romano. It was organized by the University’s Faculty of Law and its Roman law scholars, with the support of Rector Prof. Georgi Valchev and Dean Prof. Daniel Valchev.
Georgiev noted that in the context of promoting accessible legal research, the Faculty of Law's journal IUS Romanum is unique in Central and Eastern Europe and deserving of high recognition.
The Minister said: “Above all, this event is the result of the joint efforts of our colleagues and all of you from law faculties and organizations, placing the lasting academic community at the centre of international cooperation and communication in this field.”
The conference was attended by constitutional judges Yanaki Stoilov and Nevin Feti, by MPs, and by Justice Minister Georgi Georgiev. Participants in the event come from Bulgaria, Serbia, Kosovo, the Republic of North Macedonia, Turkiye, Croatia, Romania, Italy, France, Spain, Poland and Switzerland.
