An outdoor photo exhibition, titled “The Antarctic Sailors” presents the 36 members of the crew of the first Bulgarian research vessel Sv. Sv. Kiril i Metodii (RSV 421), as part of the 33rd Bulgarian Antarctic expedition, said the official Facebook page of the Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy in Varna.
The photos were taken by Marina Velikova. The exhibition will be officially opened on September 15 at the entrance to the Sea Garden in Varna and can be viewed until the end of the month.
The ship plays a key role in the full functioning of the St. Kliment Ohridski polar base on Livingston Island, the expansion of the areas for scientific work, and its sustainable supply. Varna is the logistical and emotional home of NIC 421—it is its permanent port and where a large part of the crew lives, according to the Varna Naval Academy.
The photographs present dynamic portraits of the crew in their natural working environment. The exhibition is educational in nature, with a mission to attract young people to marine sciences and inspire a responsible attitude towards nature.
