Four Bulgarian students received awards at the International Economics Olympiad (IEO) in Baku, Azerbaijan on July 20-29, the press centre of the Ministry of Education and Science announced here on Friday.

The competition was held online and included participation in individual rounds with tests on economics and financial literacy, as well as a team round in which a business case had to be solved.

Nikola Debarski, a 10th grader at the Natural Sciences and Mathematics High School in Vratsa, won a silver medal. Bronze medals went to Sara Ilieva, a 11th grader at Sofia's First Private Mathematical High School, and to Veselin Marinov, a 12th grader at the Miguel Cervantes Spanish Language High School in Sofia.

The Bulgarian team came out 5th in the business case presentation and 16th in the overall team ranking.

The International Economics Olympiad is an annual competition for high school students around the world in the areas of economics and finance. Its mission is to transform global economics, finance, and business education for high school students through competition and collaboration.
