An exhibition dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the birth of Yanaki Kavrakov (1945 – 2002) will be opened in the gallery of the Union of Bulgarian Artists in Sofia from May 29 to June 13, the organizers said on Friday.

The exhibition will feature oil paintings, watercolors and drawings by the artist, who left his mark on contemporary Bulgarian art from the second half of the 20th century. “His works bring an understanding of the mystery of human nature, of the charm that lies in ordinary things, of the ritual and mystical in the Bulgarian soul”, the Union of Bulgarian Artists emphasized.

"To this day, he is recognizable for his individual artistic style and his impressive pictorial expressiveness, in which we can find both symbolism and mysticism, as well as a special warmth and intimacy in revealing the human soul and nature," the union pointed out.

Yanaki Kavrakov was born in 1945 in Aytos in Burgas Region. From an early age he showed his creative inclinations towards drawing and plastic arts. In 1965 he graduated from the Professional High School of Stoneworking in the village of Kunino, before continuing his studies at the Nikolai Pavlovich Higher Institute of Fine Arts in Sofia (today's the National Academy of Arts), graduating in 1974 in the Painting specialty.
