The wealth of Bulgarian folklore will be presented at the European Music Festival next month. Young performers of folk music will show their artistry on May 12 at the National Academy of Music, Cantus Firmus said.
The concert, “Folklore Feast”, features vocal and instrumental compositions that reveal the melodic beauty and rhythmic diversity of Bulgarian folklore. Young folk performers are mentored by Vanya Moneva, Darina Slavova, Neli Andreeva, Ivelina Dimova, Hristina Beleva, Nedyalko Nedyalkov, Petyo Kostadinov.
There will be pieces by several generations of composers, including distinguished masters in the reworking of authentic folk music Krassimir Kyurkchiyski and Ivan Valev, as well as their younger colleagues Georgi Andreev and Stoyan Paurov.
There will also be premieres of pieces created in the spirit of folk music by the student performers themselves. "We are preparing a very colourful programme which will alternate between solo performances and songs, we will also have vocal chamber ensembles - trios , quartets as well as the academic choir and orchestra.," saсо Dimitar Hristov.
The folklore specialties at the National Academy of Music were established in 2018 at the instrumental faculty and, according to Dimitar Hristov, are developing extremely successfully. “This pleases us and gives us confidence that we are useful to young performers. It is very important for me and all my colleagues to pass on our experience, because in addition to teaching, we are also working musicians. This is an opportunity for our students to see us on stage and to draw on our concert practice and skills that will benefit them. We teach them aesthetics as well as stage manners, how to communicate with an audience and convey their emotional energy to them."
The academy takes pride in the academic folklore choir, led by Vanya Moneva and the academic folklore orchestra, led by Dimitar Hristov.
