site.btaGeorgi Gospodinov’s "Weddings of Animals and Things" to Be Staged by Skopje Shadow Puppets Theater in Sofia

The shadow puppets theater group from Skopje, Shadows and Clouds, visits Sofia on April 25 to present the play for children "Weddings of Animals and Things" to the Bulgarian audience, the Cultural and Information Center of the Republic of North Macedonia to Bulgaria, the host of the event, announced Friday. The play is based on the book of the same name by Georgi Gospodinov and his daughter, Raja, who co-authored the illustrated children's book.

“A book about the invisible life of the things around us, about the fantasies of late afternoons, when both little ones and older ones are ready to come up with games. What would happen, if... a couch and a crocodile, a turtle and a cupboard, a book and ice-cream, a camel and a teakettle came together... Some would say 'bye and farewell', others would wish to create hedge-flies, croco-couches and camelo-kettles, which smell of chamomile and honey. A book which invites you: 'come on, now’s your turn'," the announcement reads.

Actors Katerina Stefanovska, Aleksandra Stoyanovska, Darko Bogeski, Krume Stefanovski star in the performance. Blagorodna Kotseva Simyanov is the puppet designer.

The Shadows and Clouds theater group is focused on presenting shadow puppets theater as an art form, with its high cultural value. The group tries to use the shadow theater as an unconventional creative and educational tool on social issues. "Our theater space in the heart of the Debar Maalo neighborhood of Skopje operates as a cultural centre with an audience of 30 people. We are pleased to host various cultural events, such as book presentations, jam sessions, monodramas, pantomime, puppet shows, workshops, dances, photography exhibitions, pop-up shops, while also offering our space to independent artists through residency programs. One project that is really dear to us is the The Little Cloud’s Dream: Shadow Theater Festival, an international festival for children, which has had 10 editions. It is the only shadow puppets theater festival in Southeast Europe. The Shadows and Clouds group consists of actors, directors, musicians, storytellers, teachers, visual artists, photographers, etc.," the theater group says.
