More than 12 Bulgarians and foreign citizens were detained in Smolyan over the past five days for possession of narcotics or driving under the influence of drugs, the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior in Smolyan said on Monday.
Cases of driving under the influence of drugs and arrests for drug possession increased significantly during the Meadows In The Mountains art and music international festival, which took place in the village of Polkovnik Serafimovo, Smolyan Region, between June 1 and 5. However, no accidents or public order offences were recorded in that period, the police also said.
Marijuana doses were seized during police checks. The arrested drivers tested positive for cannabis, amphetamine, methamphetamine and cocaine. The drugged foreign citizens were driving car rentals for the festival. Among those arrested were an Englishman, a Romanian, a Greek, a Dutchman and a German.
