An exhibition dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the Rose Festival and Bulgarian rose traders from region of Kazanlak, Central Bulgaria, opened on Wednesday at the National Assembly.

The exposition, initiated by GERB-UDF MP Iliana Zhekova, presents the history of five families from Kazanlak. Zhekova expressed her gratitude and respect to all those who participated in the creation of the exposition, the researchers from the Iskra Museum of History in Kazanlak and the regional People's Community Centre, and all cultural institutes in Kazanlak. She noted that the exhibition presents the history of five Kazanlak families.

The exposition tells stories related to prominent Kazanlak families of rose traders, whose representatives began to cultivate oil-bearing roses and produce rose oil more than 200 years ago, Zhekova said. The rose traders are the ones who participate in a number of European and world exhibitions and win fame for Bulgarian rose oil.

The opening of the exhibition was attended by MPs, the chairman of the Kazanlak Municipal Council Nikolay Dimitrov, municipal councillors, heirs of the rose traders' families, Director of the Kazanlak Historical Museum Momchil Marinov and the first runner-up of the 2023 Rose Queen Nona Angelova.

The Rose Festival was held for the first time in 1903.
