The dance performance At The Beginning Of The City Of Rome by Claudia Castellucci will be staged on Saturday and Sunday as part of this season's international programme of the Toplocentrala Regional Centre for Contemporary Art. This will be the first performance of the world-famous choreographer in Bulgaria, the organizers said.

The Italian choreographer and playwright is the winner of the Silver Lion for dance at the Venice Biennale in 2020, sister of Romeo Castellucci and founder, together with him, Chiara and Paolo Guidi, of the famous theatre company Societas Raffaello Sanzio.

Claudia Castellucci and six dancers from her troupe are coming to Bulgaria at the invitation of Toplocentrala.

"At The Beginning Of The City Of Rome is a dance that tells how in the ancient Roman Empire - the beginning of mass society as we know it today - people began to lose the concept of measure. The title of the performance takes us back to the dawn of the most extensive European civilization, when the need arose to regulate our relations with things, the quantity of which was growing unimaginably. Claudia Castellucci's choreography expresses the facts, the consequences, the decisions and the agreements that result from a certain trajectory of human actions," says Heat Plant.

After Castellucci, the Toplocentrala's international performance programme will continue with the dance performance KOAN by the English choreographer Julyen Hamilton (25 May), and the solo dance performance The Speech by the Israeli choreographer Noa Zuk from the Batsheva Dance Company - one of the leading contemporary dance companies in the world, founded by Martha Graham and Baroness Bethsabee de Rothschild.
