The Minister of Culture Nayden Todorov opened the Bulgarian pavilion at the 18th Architecture Biennale in Venice, the press centre of the Ministry said on Thursday.
The Bulgarian Pavilion at the 2023 Venice Architecture Biennale presented the exhibition “Education Is the Movement From Darkness to Light”. The project focuses on problem of depopulation and abandoned schools in small settlements.

In his speech during the opening, Minister Todorov pointed out that the exhibition poses an extremely important problem. "And the problem it poses will worry us, it will demand a solution, because what the exhibition presents are abandoned places that were once full of life and a symbol of prosperity," the Minister of Culture pointed out.

The curator Boris Tikvarski thanked on behalf the creative team for the opportunity provided to carry out this important project. Apart from him, the team included architecht Bozhidara Valkova and Belgian photographer Alexander Dumarey.

Bulgaria's participation in the prestigious forum in 2023 is under the patronage of the Vice President Iliana Iotova.

The 18th Venice Architecture Biennale is entitled "Laboratory of the Future".

The Venice Biennale runs from May 20 to November 26, 2023, with a pre-opening on May 18 and 19.
