An interactive documentary performance titled "DETACHED OPEN AIR: Transit Zone Sofia" will take place at the open-air spaces of the Regional Centre for Contemporary Art Toplocentrala on Friday, July 10, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Admission is free.
The performance transforms the area around Toplocentrala into a symbolic transit zone between departure and return, home and the unfamiliar.
The event is based on the real-life stories of Bulgarian emigrants who lived abroad for many years before returning to Bulgaria, as well as people from different countries who have chosen Sofia as their new home. The stories were collected through interviews and adapted into an artistic production combining documentary theatre, contemporary dance, visual installations and multimedia elements.
Visitors will be able to move freely through an interactive environment featuring suitcases, textile installations, archive materials, audio recordings and video projections. Performers will present excerpts from real-life stories exploring themes of migration, love, loss, belonging and return.
The project is supported by the Sofia Municipality's Summer Programme.
