Numerous items bearing signs of cultural and historical significance were discovered and seized during two inspections conducted by officers from the Criminal Police Department in Burgas, the Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry said on Wednesday.
During the first inspection, carried out on Tuesday at a private home in Pomorie, occupied by a 77-year-old man, police officers found three albums and a bag containing a total of 761 coins made of various metals, sizes, and shapes. Preliminary data suggest that the coins date back to the Antiquity and Middle Ages. They were confiscated and sent for expert examination, while the homeowner was detained for up to 24 hours.
The second inspection took place the same day at a private home in the Pomorie village of Prosenik, inhabited by a 62-year-old local resident. Officers found and seized a yatagan with a bone handle and sheath, five coins of different shapes and diameters, a monogrammed ring, three tools of various sizes, a ceramic fragment, two clay “pithos”-type vessels, a stone column base, and a millstone.
Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated in connection with both cases.
