The tourism sector must be aligned with sustainable development and environmental protection, Tourism Minister Miroslav Borshosh said during the Black Sea 2030: Partnership for a Sustainable Future International Forum here on Friday.

If real actions are not taken to protect the sea and the coast, future generations will inherit a risky and difficult-to-manage environment, he stressed, adding that tourism is a key driver of the regional economy, but in order to be sustainable, it must be integrated into the blue and green economies.

The minister emphasized that the state, local authorities and business must act jointly to ensure coastal protection, stimulate innovation and entrepreneurship among young people and ensure that the Southern Black Sea Coast remains attractive for investment and development. "The question is what we leave to young people, what kind of planet, what kind of Bulgaria and what kind of Black Sea" Borshosh pointed out, noting that conferences like this one outline the future of the region and set the framework within which tourism and sustainable resource management develop.

He thanked the organizers of the forum, the scientific community and young people for their support in promoting the blue and green economies, pointing out that the commitment to these sectors is important not only for economic development and nature conservation, but also for the demographic potential of the region, by enabling young people to create businesses and families along the Bulgarian coast.

"Bulgaria has proven that as a peripheral and border area of the European Union, it can bear responsibility, both during economic and geopolitical and military crises. Now it must prove that it can also bear this responsibility when we are faced with climate crises," the minister concluded.

The Black Sea 2030: Partnership for a Sustainable Future International Forum is organized by Burgas Municipality, in partnership with the ProspectiM Association and with the support of the scientific community, maritime business and the non-governmental sector. It focused on the green transition, the protection of the marine and coastal environment, digitalization and the promotion of innovations in the blue economy. The goal of the forum is to create a platform for visionary ideas and the exchange of good practices.
