Bulgarian Ombudsman Velislava Dencheva and UNICEF Representative in Bulgaria Christina de Bruin have signed a new 2025–2027 Work Plan under the existing 2023–2027 Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation, UNICEF said in a press release on Tuesday.
The plan envisages expanding opportunities for children to submit complaints, holding consultations with children and young people, and encouraging child participation in decision-making processes.
Within the framework of the plan, initiatives will be undertaken to strengthen expertise on child rights, improve access to justice, and enhance protection for vulnerable groups of children. Priority will also be given to building the Ombudsman institution’s capacity for independent monitoring of children’s rights and to more actively involving children in consultations and public processes.
Another key focus is raising public awareness of children’s rights.
The cooperation between the Ombudsman’s institution and UNICEF aims to build a fairer and more inclusive society in which the rights of every child are respected and guaranteed, UNICEF’s press office further said.
