The Education Ministry on Tuesday will present the annual Pythagoras Science Contribution Awards at the National History Museum. The ceremony will be opened by Education Minister Krasimir Valchev, the Ministry said.

The competition is being held for the 17th consecutive year and has established itself as the most prestigious national award for achievements in scientific research.

At the ceremony, both established and young scientists will be recognized in the fields of natural and engineering sciences, life sciences and medicine, as well as social and humanities sciences. Traditionally, the grand prize is given for lifetime scientific contribution.

This year, 52 scientists applied in eight categories, which were reviewed by a jury of prominent scientists, the Ministry said.

Over the past 16 years, more than 700 scientists have been nominated for the Pythagoras awards, and around 150 have been recipients.
