Regional Development Minister Ivan Ivanov said Tuesday that the Government plans for the National Water Board to work in two directions - specific solutions for struggling regions and strategic, long-term solutions for the whole country. At a briefing at the Council of Ministers, he added that the National Water Board will provide much greater clarity, sustainability, and consistency in water management.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov convened the first meeting of the National Water Board.

“In our opinion, there are sufficient resources and expertise,” Ivanov said.

Targeted investments in the water supply and sewerage network, the development of new water sources, and riverbed management will be the focus of the newly created board. According to the Minister, water quality is a priority. "We expect all affected institutions and individuals, including those outside the executive and local authorities, to participate actively in decision-making and implementation," Ivanov added.
