The fire in the Rila Mountains, above the Iliyna River, has spread and now covers an area of about 90 hectares, Katya Tabachka, spokesperson for the Kyustendil Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior, told the Bulgarian News Agency on Saturday.
At present, the fire has been contained on three sides.
Teams from the Regional Directorate of Fire Safety and Civil Protection in Kyustendil, firefighters from the fire department in the town of Rila, and employees of the Rila National Park and the Rila Monastery are participating in the extinguishing efforts, Tabachka said. No aircraft or volunteers were involved in extinguishing the fire.
The fire is at an altitude of about 2,200 meters and broke out on the evening of September 9.
