New average driving speed rules will come into effect on September 6, with 22 sections covering parts of all motorways and key routes with a high concentration of road accidents, said Oleg Asenov, Director of the National Toll Administration, at a briefing at the Council of Ministers in connection with the entry into force of part of the provisions of the Road Traffic Act, including average speed control.
Asenov added that the agency's website lists all sections that have already passed an initial inspection and will be gradually included in the control system. He explained that there are currently 14 such sections, and as of September 3, two more sections have passed the initial inspection. The toll administration's website provides information on the location of the sections, including a map of the relevant section of the road network.
By the end of the year, more than 1,200 km of the road network will be covered by average speed control.
Oleg Asenov also commented that overload control is expected to begin around October 15, with 20 control points initially. They have been selected based on statistics for the busiest routes. The points are located on motorways, first-class and second-class roads.
In the Q&A section of the toll management page, users can find information about the calibrated weighbridges for measuring road vehicles in motion, said Asenov. He also announced that a campaign is planned with transport companies and organizations regarding how the process of weighing in motion and electronic enforcement will be carried out.
The toll administration manager also noted that the road toll regulation was published for public discussion on Monday.
