At its regular meeting on Wednesday, the Council of Ministers adopted a report on the implementation in 2024 of the National Programme for Energy Efficiency of Multi-family Residential Buildings. According to the report, 270 dwellings in three multi-family buildings located within Sofia Municipality were renovated under the Programme last year, the Government Information Service reported.
The Programme, which is managed by the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works, is in its final phase. As of December 31, 2024, activities had been launched on 99.9% of all 1,969 buildings with active targeted financing contracts. Since its launch in 2015 until the end of 2024, a total of 1,968 buildings were renovated across the country.
Contracts for targeted financing have been concluded for 2,022 buildings. In 2023, due to a shortage of financial resources, the contracts for 52 of these were terminated. By the end of the same year, the Ministry secured additional funding and signed bilateral agreements for the transfer of funds with six municipalities for the energy renovation of 48 buildings. Four buildings were excluded from the Programme in one of the municipalities due to non-compliance with the financing requirements under a bilateral agreement. In December 2024, at the initiative of a homeowners' association, the agreement for the transfer of funds for another building was also terminated. As a result, by the end of last year, there were 47 bilateral agreements in force nationwide.
The implementation of the measures under the Programme has led to a reduction in household heating costs. The measures have also contributed to improved environmental quality through reduced greenhouse gas emissions, the Government Information Service said.
