Parliament adopted in two readings in one sitting a bill to ratify the Statute of the Association FOEDUS European Organ Exchange Association. The bill was submitted by the Council of Ministers.
At the 8th annual meeting of the Association’s members, held on September 13, 2023, the membership of the Executive Agency Medical Supervision (EAMS) in the FOEDUS European Organ Exchange Association. was discussed and unanimously supported, the Council of Ministers said.
As the competent authority for the management, coordination and control of transplantation in Bulgaria, EAMS controls the exchange of organs with the Member States of the European Union, with the other countries party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area, and with the Swiss Confederation, as well as imports and exports from and to third countries. In this regard, the participation of the EAMS in the Association will expand the opportunities for saving human lives of patients in need of transplantation by receiving or providing organs for transplantation in donor situations in the country and Europe.
Membership in the Association does not limit the participation of EAMS in other current and future mechanisms of the European Union, international organizations for organ exchange, as well as the conclusion of bilateral agreements for cooperation in the field of donation and transplantation.
