United Kingdom's Minister for the Constitution and European Union Relations Nick Thomas-Symonds has arrived on a visit to Bulgaria. Minister of the Interior Daniel Mitov welcomed him at Sofia airport Tuesday.
After their bilateral meeting, a demonstration of passport control technology was conducted. A demonstration of vehicle and cargo inspection equipment supplied to the National Customs Agency by the UK is also planned.
Speaking to the media, Mitov said that The agreement between the EU and the UK is significant for Bulgaria, as a large number of UK tourists are expected to visit during both the summer and winter seasons. Mitov pointed out that the use of electronic gates facilitates the entry of British citizens into the country, although Schengen procedures will still be observed.
Thomas-Symonds said it was a pleasure for him to welcome the first group of British tourists who will be able to take advantage of the electronic gates at Bulgarian airports. He added that the practical implementation of the cooperation agreement between the EU and the UK, signed on May 19, will be of mutual benefit.
