In its Tuesday session, the Bulgarian government decided to provide funding for the education of 41,566 newly admitted university students during the next academic year at 38 public higher education institutions, including military academies, while approving the number of students and doctoral candidates to be admitted to public universities and research institutions for the 2025/2026 academic year.

The state-funded student admission plan is developed jointly with higher education institutions and serves as one of the key tools for guiding young people toward fields that are most needed on the labour market. A plan for admission increase compared to the 2024/2025 academic year includes professional fields such as Chemical Sciences, General Engineering, Healthcare, and others. At the same time, admission in fields such as Philology, Psychology, Political Science, Law are expected to decrease compared to the 2024/2025 academic year.

In the 2025-2026 academic year, 1,585 doctoral candidates will be admitted to public higher education institutions, and 340 to research organizations, including 210 at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) and 71 at the Agricultural Academy.
