site.btaBlue Flag Officially Raised at Pomorie Fishing Port

A blue flag was raised at a solemn ceremony at the fishing port in Pomorie after the port's application was approved by the programme's international jury. The event was hosted by the mayor of Pomorie Municipality, Ivan Aleksiev. The ceremony brought together representatives of the diplomatic corps, the Ministry of Tourism, regional governors, mayors of municipalities, and representatives of the tourism industry. 

Pomorie is one of the few places in the country to receive this recognition for sustainable management of its coastal zone and high water quality standards, as was noted during the flag-raising ceremony. Speaking to journalists, Ivan Aleksiev pointed out that, according to the Ministry of Tourism's analysis, Pomorie is seeing an increase in visitor numbers for 2024, with 30% of tourists coming outside the peak summer season.

"The city has the opportunity and the chance to develop as a year-round tourist destination," he said. Aleksiev added that the municipality is actively working to promote its cultural and historical heritage, including the inclusion of the Thracian dome tomb in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Emphasis was also placed on the development of balneology, with two new modern complexes currently under construction.

The mayor expressed optimism about the upcoming tourist season and noted that the city's residents are hopeful and prepared to welcome summer guests to Pomorie. He told BTA that in recent years there has been increased interest in the outskirts of Pomorie, as the accommodation capacity is fully booked during the busy summer months. 

"After COVID, Bulgarians have recognized Pomorie as a favorite vacation spot. We have the opportunity to grow - we are already developing in the direction of Burgas, in the Lahana area. Parking is a problem in the summer, but we are working on it. We have an idea to build several multi-story parking lots," said the mayor. Representatives of the Navy took part in the raising ceremony, with their help the national flag was also hoisted.
