Arkutino Beach in Primorsko Municipality is among Bulgarian sites that have received the international environmental Blue Flag Award. The beach is located in a picturesque area between Primorsko and Sozopol and is part of a protected area. For the most part, its southern part is occupied by sand dunes, which are home to protected plant species, including sand lilies, the concessionaire company of the beach said.
Preparation of Arkutino Beach is already underway this year, as some of the umbrellas and sun loungers have been placed already, and work is underway to place and equip the lifeguard posts as well. The beach will be divided into four zones, and a separate territory will be provided for the free placement of guest's beach equipment. Water sports enthusiasts will also be able to take advantage of the surf school on the beach, which is a traditional offer that enjoys great interest from tourists.
The Blue Flag Award is given by the Denmark-based Foundation for Environmental Education, with over 50 countries participating in the programme. In order to qualify for the Blue Flag, a series of stringent environmental, educational, safety, and accessibility criteria must be met and maintained.
BTA is presenting all 30 Bulgarian beaches and harbours awarded the Blue Flag by the international jury of the Programme in Copenhagen. It is the 30th anniversary of the first award for the country - the pilot Blue Flag was raised on Sunny Beach on July 4, 1995.
